Daniel Dos Santos
Daniel Dos Santos (Dan Dos Santos) painted all 137 original works for the 2022 Upper Deck Marvel Masterpieces trading card set. He spent more than ten thousand hours on the project. The painted base art carries the Marvel Masterpieces tradition of fully rendered superhero portraits across the heroes and villains of the Marvel Universe. His Spider-Man painting from the set sold for 50000 dollars; a record for a Marvel card painting on the open market. Before Marvel he built a career in speculative fiction illustration. He painted covers for Tor; Bantam and Pyr; including the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs and Brandon Sanderson novels. Many of those covers reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list. He won the Chesley Award for Best Paperback Cover and the Jack Gaughan Award for Best Emerging Artist. His Marvel work is collected in the book The Marvel Art of Dan Dos Santos.
